The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Welcome to the Next Big Thing Blog Hop!

What is a blog hop? Basically, it’s a way that readers can discover new authors whose books may not be on display in local bookstores. Fellow Women’s Fiction Author Steena Holms tagged me to participate, so first off I want to thank her for doing so. Her latest work is a novella that is well worth looking into.  To read an excerpt from Dear Jack…A Finding Emma novella click here.

You can also get to know more Steena and her bestselling novel Finding Emma by visiting her blog at or by visiting her website at

Two more authors you’ll want to visit are:

McGuffy Ann Morris, author of the popular children’s book Bedtime Tails to visit McGuffy’s blog – click here

Elaine Walsh, author of the dynamic YA novel Atomic Summer to visit Elaine’s blog click here

As a participant in this Blog Hop, I’ve agreed to answer ten questions about my current work in proress, so here goes…

1) What is the working title of your book?   WHAT MATTERS MOST

2) Where did the idea come from for the book?

One day we went out for a round of golf and we were paired with a couple from NJ. They had just recently moved to Florida and while he was quite happy with the move, she missed the home and family she’d left behind.  I started to think about such circumstances, added a few quirky friends and voila – a story was born.

3) What Genre does your book come under?

The genre is Literary Fiction, but, it is a light-hearted tale that probably has more appeal for women.

4) Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Meryl Streep could play the lead in almost any book I’ve written. She is ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. She plays a woman with both strength and vulnerability, which is how I see most of my protagonists. I would probably pair her with Tommy Lee Jones again – this loving but slightly disfunctional couple is not terribly different than the one they portrayed in “Hope Springs.”

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

What Matters Most is a story about adapting to change, discovering the truth of friendship, and growing beyond yourself.

6) Will this book be self-published, published by an independent publisher, or represented by an agency?

Independent Publisher – Bent Pine Publishing

7) How long did it take to write the draft of this novel?

Approximately eight months, but I’m still working on manuscript changes and fine-tuning. Editing and re-writing is an important part of giving the story proper pacing and flow. It is said that an author is never really finished with a manuscript, they simply run out of time for meeting deadlines.

8) What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

I never compare my books to those of another author. Every book I write is my own and I work very hard at not allowing another author to influence my voice. Story-telling is a unique art and for it to remain so, the author must forever remain independent of thought.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Life inspires me. I am a story-teller and just looking at the cycle of life around me is constant inspiration. Days go by, circumstances change, people change..there are a zillion stories just waiting to be told, all we have to do is open our eyes and hearts to see them.

10) What else about your book might pique the readers interest?

My books are always about the characters – quirky, funny, true-to-life, sometimes brave, sometimes frightened characters – struggling to make the best of what life hands them.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief insight into the novel that will be released in the Spring of 2013 and I’d love to have you stay tuned for more book news, fun features, subscriber contests and special events. Bette, your WIP sounds like another of your heartwarming stories that focuses on the positive aspects of life. We need more of those kind of stories these days! I love the title … in fact, that same title was one of the contenders for my next novel before I decided upon The Promise of Provence! How about that? Once again, all the best for the holidays!
